Shelter Animals Count is a new, collaborative initiative formed by a diverse group of stakeholders to create and share a national database of sheltered animal statistics, providing facts, and enabling insights that will save lives.
Board of Directors

Sara C. White,

DVM, Executive Director, Spay ASAP Inc., Hartland, VT

After graduating from veterinary school at North Carolina State University in 1998, Dr. White began work in mixed animal practice in Vermont. In 2000 she became the first on-staff shelter veterinarian in New Hampshire, at the Upper Valley Humane Society. In 2006, Dr. White received a grant from the ASPCA to establish a nonprofit MASH-style mobile low cost, high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter service, officially launching Spay ASAP Inc. Spay ASAP coordinates with local humane organizations to provide spay and neuter for shelter animals, low income pets, and feral cats. Since that time, she has spayed and neutered more than 26,000 cats and dogs in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Dr. White has been active on the advisory board of the New Hampshire Federation of Humane Organizations since 2002, and has been a member of the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association’s Animal Welfare Committee and on the board of the Vermont Humane Federation since 2007. In 2008 she became a founding board member of VT-CAN!, a NSNRT clinic. Dr. White currently serves on the board of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, and is a member of the Veterinary Task Force to Advance Spay Neuter.
